This massive yokai appears as a colossal mermaid with two large horns protruding from their head. One witness account claims to have seen an Akugyo off the coast of present day Toyama prefecture, reaching an estimated length of 11 meters. Fishing boats are Akugyo's main prey, as they easily become trapped on their back. Akugyo will capsize these vessels to drown and devour the sailors onboard.
