狐
This Kitsune is dressed for a very special event. Her kimono is adorned in wisteria blossoms, a symbol of love and immortality as she prepares for a long life ahead. She has just turned 100 years old and has gained the ability to transform herself into a beautiful young woman.
Kitsune are intelligent foxes with supernatural powers that grow increasingly more wise and powerful as they age. Every 100 years, a Kitsune will gain another tail (as many as nine in its lifetime) and obtain more power and wisdom with it. When a Kitsune has gained its ninth tail their fur will turn white or gold signifying their enlightenment. These Kyūbi no Kitsune (九尾の狐 nine-tailed fox) have the power of omniscience, being able to see or hear anything happening in the world with their powerful senses. Some legends claim that Kitsune use their powers to manipulate humans, others portray them as loyal companions, friends, lovers and even wives.
Kitsune are also associated with the supernatural through their ties to Inari, a Shinto Kami (spirit/god) that they serve as messengers. Many people today still make offerings to Inari and the Kitsune as deities due to their power and influence.
This doll is made of; polymer clay, armature wire, faux fur and synthetic hair. Her kimono is hand sewn and painted. She is about 13 inches tall and posable.
